BOCA Bellydancers of Color Association (BOCA) was founded by Dr. Sunyatta Amen to celebrate the sister/brotherhood, strength and beauty of people of color in relation to belly dance and other traditional forms of movement & healing. OUR MISSION is to: * Build strong and healthy bonds among dancers of color through networking opportunities. * Enlighten members to the historically accurate roots and purposes of belly dance as a healing form of movement. Thus, dispelling long held myths and misconceptions that have resulted in a distortion of this ancient dance form. * Enlighten members to the history and impact that people of color have made in the world of dance. * Encourage holistic fitness through dance mind, body and spirit within all age groups from youth to the elderly. * Assert realistic body images. * Commit to the preservation of bellydance and other forms of multicultural expression. * Provide continuing education through the Annual Movement & Wellness Conference, Workshops, Seminars and ongoing outreach.
